Sendai Propaganda is the search for an utopian city. The first step was a thorough study of propagandistic images, followed by the construction of a 3D model. Then, Bolognesi took pictures of his city, printed them and painted them with oil pastels. Due to this process, the resulting painting appears tangible, not at all flat.
The city’s structure is both simple and complex at the same time.
There are buildings everywhere, it is as if they dominate the whole planet. As strange as it may sound, an organised anarchy governs the city. There are no industrial or residential areas. Everything is neat and kept in immaculate order, everything looks the same. It is easy to lose your sense of direction.
Meanwhile, giant robots move around the city. They keep the order, and patrol the most dangerous areas through the light of their torches placed upon their forehead. Up in the sky, several spaceships plough through the air, slowly but tirelessly.
